India in New Zealand: A Glimpse

It is really tragic what happened with the Sri Lankan team on 1st March. An attack in broad day light just steps away The Gaddafi stadium is really something 1 needs to ponder over. This might spell disaster not only for cricket in Pakistan but the whole of Asia. We are already seeing more than 1 player saying they will after this attack think again before traveling to India for IPL. Latest addition to the list is Daniel Vettori who has now left the decision to NZ cricket board over his coming to India to play in IPL.

Indian Team started tour in a blitztering manner with Sehwag hitting hapless Southee for 3 consecutive sixes to end the 1st over and start the tour on a high for India. But suddenly wickets started falling in a heap and suddenly India from 25/0 were reeling at 101/7(75 runs scored thanks mainly to those 3 sixes on 3 balls by Pathan, who finally got out holding on mid-on trying to emulate Yuvraj’s 6 sixer record). Next came out to bat Harbhajan Singh, who is recent pasts has been India’s savior in lots of recent matches( remember 1st match of the recently concluded series between India and Australia , when he with Zaheer Khan saved the day for India ). And on the other end was a real talent for India Surseh Raina. They both had a partnership of 60 odd runs to save India from the danger of being bowled out within there quota of 20 overs.  But will 162 going to be enough on a ground which seems smaller than the ground I played my school cricket on. (even I would have backed myself for hitting a couple of sixes on this small Christchurch ground)

And we found out the answer pretty soon. And sadly the answer was “ NO “.   Although Zaheer and Ishant started the proceedings brilliantly, hardly giving anything away. But some lusty blows from Mc Cullum, Gutpil, Taylor and Oram stole the match away from India. A tragic end to such a brilliant start of the match by India
