Importance of weekend

If you ask any working professional what he loves most (obviously after his family), I guess it would be “Dusk on a Friday”. Nothing gives working professional as much joy as the feeling of a coming weekend, approaching ever so slowly and passing by with the speed of knots. No one else can feel the feelings attached with the dusk of Friday, and yeah also the horrors of Sunday nite.

As child I used to watch Papa relax on Sunday’s. Mom would ask us not to disturb Papa. I used to feel bad, real bad. But today I understand the reason behind Mom asking us not to disturb him. Today finally I have understood “Importance of Weekend”.

Whole week we keep running around having hardly a minute to hold on and think, think about anything and everything. Think about what we want to do in future, think about things like Economy and politics and social issues and Election. I had read long back some where that human minds get 100’s of thoughts in a minute. Oh God imagine 100 thoughts in 60 seconds. But how many of us waits and even think about any of these thoughts even 1s. Weekend gives us this amazing opportunity to THINK.

I keep hearing numbers of divorces are on an increase in India. Weekends also gives time to couples to have time for each other. Isn’t weekend an amazing and divine thing?
And most importantly weekend gives us time for ourselves. To be wid oneself, try and understand oneself.

So a very Happy Weekend to all…..

Holi Haiii

Once again it’s that time of year which makes me most home sick. One of my elder cousin once long long back told me that “you feels home sick when you are feeling weak, may be physically or mentally”, but hey I really feel home sick most of the times. Does that means am always physically or mentally weak!!! Duh chuck it; let’s come back to the initial topic. It’s Holi and I am missing home as usual, but more so this year. I dono y but I am. Its not that I wont be enjoying Holi here wid my friends, but the joyous feeling of being wid family on festivals cant be expressed in words, more so for guys who have been away from home for as long as they can remember. And u know what, the biggest irony is: if I was at home I would have really missed being here wid friends. That’s life for u guys. As some one said “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”.

I can’t even remember when last I was at home during Holi. But yeah still if I close my eyes I can feel myself standing outside the main gate of my house in fully torn cloths, asking mom for yet another pair of cloths, because there were still a couple of friends whom I had to visit. There are those wonderful memories of Holi. The 1st and foremost is the yummy food that would be prepared. Every one in the family will be together. Joint families are really big u know. Those “tolis” of guys playing Holi and the music and masti associated with it. And yeah we all children standing on terrace wid balloons filled wid colours, just waiting for any1 to pass. And “facchhak “a series of balloons hurled towards him/her.

This was only the 1st round of Holi. In the evening we will wear New “Kurta Pajama”, and visit all the relatives and friends. And every house we went to we got to eat “Dahi Bada” and some sweets and used to get “Thandai” to drink. Thandai widout “ Bhaang” as we were kids( supposedly). And then at last but not the lest there used to a “ Haasya Kawi sammelan” (Poets Summit). It was grand celebration time for us. We got to stay awake till late in the nite. And yeah also the sammelan was good. It was really funny wid some best names in the industry coming on the dice together.

I dono when will I get to relive these astonishing moments again. But I just wish I get it soon, before I loose my boyish character all together to give way to all manly characters of near zero emotion. And yeah I wish every1 a very happy and prosperous and colourful Holi. Holi Haiiiii.

Good Morning India

I Opened rediiff and IBN Live today morning happily to read some columns on India’s yet another victory (yipeeeeeee…Something to cheer about in these gloomy times) in NZ. And guess what the 1st Headlines were… “Infosys opts out of campus recruitment” & “Global economy shrinks, India loses 5 lakh jobs”. God I skipped a beat. Where is our economy headed? Every one is talking about the number of job losses, but no one talks about the future of those lakhs of students who will be passing out this year. What about them man. Where will they find jobs in this gloomy marker scenario?

I had gone to my college last week. I did my engineering from there. Four best years of my life. It was really  Nostalgic. I just loved the feeling to be back in that campus where life was so care free. Went to eat My favorite “ Samosa” in the canteen. Meet all ma teachers. And I could feel the heaviness in my heart out of that nostalgic feeling. Suddenly a dialogue from the movie RDB hit me hard “ Campus ke is aur hum zindagi ko nachate hain to campus ke us aur Zindagi hume nachati hai “. I hadn’t realized its meaning while I was watching the movie, but how true it seems today.

I was moving from 1 teacher’s cabin to another pondering over this dialogue, trying to map its meaning with my life. Suddenly I saw our Favorite Lab teacher. We jus loved him, for the kinda help he was, in the lab. I greeted him and started talking to him. He told me he got married last month and that he was sorry that he couldn’t call any of us, as everything happened very fast. I congratulated him and said its fine. I can understand.

But it made me question myself “Even if he would have called me, whether I would have found time out of the busy and hectic life to go and congratulate the couple.” “How many marriages of friends and family have I attended after my engineering? And the answer hit me “NONE” .

But I was pulled out of my imaginative world by another of his statements.“You know it’s already March and not a single company has come to our college for recruitment. Not even 1 student from 6th sem is placed till now”.“Oh God” were the 1st words from my mouth. A couple of years back nearly 80% of our college was placed at the start of 6th sem. I asked whether students have gone and talked to our placement cell. He said students have been told that they shouldn’t even expect any placements this year. And if any of them have any relatives in any of the companies they should ask there relatives to come to the college for recruitments. I was horrified. What about these students who has slogged there asses for 4 years in search of a glorious future. I was feeling so sorry for these students.

I wished that time I had a magic wand in my hand. I would have changed the whole job scenario. Every one would have found a job. That moment I had a feeling of satisfaction that we have opened this website “ThePartimers” for providing Part Time jobs to Students. At least these students can work part time and earn valuable experience and some money. Part Time work can neva substitute Full Time work but, “Something is always better than nothing”. So at least Students can work and get something out of it. Hope the economy stops shrinking soon enough for these 6th sem students to find jobs before they finish there 8th sem.

India in New Zealand: A Glimpse

It is really tragic what happened with the Sri Lankan team on 1st March. An attack in broad day light just steps away The Gaddafi stadium is really something 1 needs to ponder over. This might spell disaster not only for cricket in Pakistan but the whole of Asia. We are already seeing more than 1 player saying they will after this attack think again before traveling to India for IPL. Latest addition to the list is Daniel Vettori who has now left the decision to NZ cricket board over his coming to India to play in IPL.

Indian Team started tour in a blitztering manner with Sehwag hitting hapless Southee for 3 consecutive sixes to end the 1st over and start the tour on a high for India. But suddenly wickets started falling in a heap and suddenly India from 25/0 were reeling at 101/7(75 runs scored thanks mainly to those 3 sixes on 3 balls by Pathan, who finally got out holding on mid-on trying to emulate Yuvraj’s 6 sixer record). Next came out to bat Harbhajan Singh, who is recent pasts has been India’s savior in lots of recent matches( remember 1st match of the recently concluded series between India and Australia , when he with Zaheer Khan saved the day for India ). And on the other end was a real talent for India Surseh Raina. They both had a partnership of 60 odd runs to save India from the danger of being bowled out within there quota of 20 overs.  But will 162 going to be enough on a ground which seems smaller than the ground I played my school cricket on. (even I would have backed myself for hitting a couple of sixes on this small Christchurch ground)

And we found out the answer pretty soon. And sadly the answer was “ NO “.   Although Zaheer and Ishant started the proceedings brilliantly, hardly giving anything away. But some lusty blows from Mc Cullum, Gutpil, Taylor and Oram stole the match away from India. A tragic end to such a brilliant start of the match by India
